Before Outer Spaces, we founded Outer—an outdoor furniture company designed to inspire more time outside. Since then, Outer has served tens of thousands of families, generated hundreds of millions of dollars in sales, and raised more than $80 million in venture capital.
Building a company centered on outdoor living meant spending years thinking about the American backyard—how people use it, how often they don’t, and how much untapped potential is sitting there.
Nearly 80 million U.S. homes have backyards, representing roughly 1 trillion square feet of underutilized land. Above them is another underutilized resource: sunlight. At the same time, our lives require more electricity—and a more sustainable way to generate and store it.
We realized the backyard could solve both needs. It could become more space for living while generating and storing power for the home. That realization became Outer Spaces.
